Role of Adjuster

The insurance adjuster is paid to handle the case for the insurance company that insures the party at fault. Naturally, the adjuster has a bias for the insurance company and against you, the accident victim. His job is to protect his employer, the insurance company.

Immediately after an accident, the insurance company has its adjuster investigate the accident. His primary role is to find evidence that either diminishes or defeats the accident victim’s claim.

If the accident victim is injured, the adjuster will ask for a signed medical authorization. He will state that it is needed to collect accident related treatment records and bills. However, the authorization is never limited to these medical documents. He will also use the authorization to collect all prior medical records in hopes of finding a single medical visit or complaint of pain regarding the area of the body that was injured in the accident.

In summary, the adjuster’s role is to investigate and build a case that defeats or diminishes the accident victim’s claim. The role of the personal injury attorney is to thoroughly investigate every aspect of the case and turn over every stone to make sure the accident victim receives the maximum compensation allowed under the law.
